New Freeway Lane in Roseville
CalTrans will open a new auxiliary lane on eastbound Interstate 80 between the Auburn Boulevard and Douglas Boulevard interchanges, a heavily traveled stretch of freeway.
The new auxiliary lane will allow drivers to enter I-80 and drive in that lane or merge into other lanes. It is the first phase of a $210 million project to ease congestion on I-80.
The next phase will add carpool lanes on eastbound and westbound I-80, between the Sacramento Placer county line and Eureka Road. The second phase should be completed in 2008.
The third phase will add a westbound auxiliary lane from Auburn to DouglasCaltrans, Placer County, the city of Roseville, and the Placer County Transportation Planning Agency are paying for the project.
